When I was trying to figure out this process, I was pretty much lost, as I did not know where to begin. However, Eric was able to help me at every step of the process, as he guided me in a step-by-step fashion, starting with my interests and likes. He mapped everything out for me, by helping to choose my courses to having me take interest inventories to helping me discover good fit colleges. There are some great ones out there that I had never even heard of! He helped me with the Common Application and my essays and I am proud to say that I will be studying at St. Olaf College!

As I was going through this process, I had a good idea of the college I wanted - close to home, urban campus, with an engineering major. However, I wasn’t sure I could get accepted. Eric was able to get me to see that although I was on the fence, writing strong essays would probably get me accepted. He was right! His help with my essays made them much better - my Common Application Personal Statement was hugely improved and Eric’s advice for the “Why us?” essay really personalized and tied me to the college!

I am not a typical student, as I have a learning disability. Both my parents and I were unsure if I could be successful in college, as high school has been a challenge, at times. Eric helped me to find some schools that would meet my needs and offered the extra academic help I will need. He then helped guide me through the application process - I needed the most help with my essay and he helped me to nail it! I have been accepted into a good school and can’t wait to get started this fall!

I didn't know how to write an essay at all, but by taking this course now I really know how to write one. It encouraged me to think about the challenges I've faced in my life and their impact on me. The first exercise made me to go and look at my Scrapbook and photos and this really made me happy. This course helped me in writing an essay while bringing my memories back, which made me realize that I'm capable of reaching my goals and I'm strong.
